The Art Of Meditation And You
Jun 22nd, 2010 by Dee Marie

Conquering the art of meditation can be one of the most important and meaningful endeavors you will ever accomplish. Life is stressful, and often overlooked is ones spiritual health. You will find many different ideas, methods, and techniques involved with meditation. Know though that at the heart of all these cultures you will find basics that all people should explore.

Various civilizations have explored the concepts of this spiritual exercise for thousands of years. Although different teachers will adhere to differing ideas, the basics are present in all of them. Through approaching the right mindset, acquiring proper breathing, and positioning your posture adequately you will find spiritual wholeness.

One of the most important aspects of this spiritual journey is acquiring a proper posture. The most important idea behind this is that the back should be aligned straight and vertical. Another popular idea is the crossing of the legs and the turning of the hands upright, in order to promote a spiritual serenity.

Another vital, but easily overlooked aspect is learning a proper breathing technique. One should learn to control their breathe, entering and exiting the nostrils. Breathe slowly and with purpose, feeling the air revitalize your lungs. As you gain dominion over your air intake, you will encounter a sense of peace and tranquility.

Although seemingly simplistic in nature, putting your mind and spirit into the proper state of mind is often difficult, especially for beginners. It is surprisingly difficult to free yourself from the constant bombardment of today’s world. With practice and motivation, one can abandon the stress of daily life. The idea is that, although in the beginning you will only find peace during meditation, this attitude will incorporate itself into the other parts of your life giving you peace of mind all day long.

Although sacrificing some time is necessary to acquire a proper technique, the benefits of a real meditation session will far outweigh the loss of your time. Finding a relief to your daily stresses is wonderful, but other, much more significant goals can be met. A deep understanding of your life and its function is priceless, and the spiritual healing is something no doctor could ever offer.

With the hectic pace of today’s world, it is easy for someone to get lost in the shuffle. But understand that slowing that pace down from time to time and doing spiritual exercises can help one develop not on a professional or physical level, but on an emotional level. Although many individuals are skeptical, meditation also helps develop other aspects of your life.

Learn How To Meditate For Beginners
Jun 19th, 2010 by Dee Marie

When you start learning how to meditate, your body and mind must first be mentally prepared. Essentially it is now the time for you to start “thinking carefully about something…”.

This unfortunately is where most learners falter, and the primary reason for this is simply that the question always comes up. “WHAT DO I HAVE TO MEDITATE ABOUT?…”. “WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW”.

What most teachers will omit to teach, or tell you, is that objectively, to get the best benefits of meditation, you have to figure out first what you consider worth the effort, and then meditate on that.

That of course does not mean that you cannot go for the clearing of your mind meditation where you think about nothing. This you will find is rather on the difficult side however, and most seasoned meditators battle with this.

So, to begin meditating you would rather want to find a subject or topic to meditate on “think about”. These could include things like:

• Relaxing & destressing
• Just for fun
• Your health
• In preparation for a difficult task such as interview for a new job, first date…
• Some problem in your life
• Some problem at work
• Some spiritual pursuit
• Things like astral projection

This probably still has you a little baffled. “HOW DO I MEDITATE TO RELAX AND DESTRESS”. Well I can assure you that sitting there and whinning “I have to relax and destress” over and over again will not do the trick. Rather than focusing on trying to relax, think about the place that you feel safe and calm in and go there in your mind. Going there will also keep you going for a little while, making it possible for you to stay in this meditative state for a time. Now if you want to stay in this place a little longer, start focusing on details of this place in your mind.

Following this will likely make it possible for you to stay in meditation longer, and by the time you have awaken from your meditation, you will probably feel very relaxed. Get to know the various types of meditation and unlock the beautiful power of your calm mind today.

Every single person on this planet should learn how to meditate to help you in your day-to-day growth, to help you cope with the world and to help you deal with your anxiety.

The whole role of self meditation is to help find your inner peace that is the art of putting all that chaos in your mind and you life into some sort of order. The very first step of meditation is bringing you to a point of calm, a point of peace upon which you can build and manage control. Once you have achieved that stage, you can further explore your own mind. At the present time, our mind often swirls with information, facts, stress, worries and much more simply because of the way in which we live and the bombardment of information from commercial entities. The role of meditation is to help you to find a way of managing that information and to reflect on your surroundings.

Meditation will help you to find that point at which you can cope and manage all the bombardments without feeling over whelmed but that is not the only reason we meditate. Let me outline some simple reasons why you should consider learning the art of meditation.

One of the core reasons why an individual might learn meditation is to help with their ability to cope with stress and to become calm. One of the roles of meditation is to help release the alpha waves in both our left and right side of our brains. These alpha waves will help bring about a sense of calm, similar to when you would whistle a happy tune or a simply day dream.

Learning how to meditate and bring you to a state of calm will help you cope with the daily stress of life. From personal experience, I have found that if I do not meditate for 20 minutes a day minimum, I find that my ability to cope with the daily stress of work is far harder then when I have completed my meditation.

When we first starting to meditate, there are many habits that we fall into that prevent us from achieving a peaceful, state to make any real progress. There are habits of worry, restlessness, judging ourselves or our practice of meditation techniques, excessive movement which can become distracting, overeating, overindulging in smoking or drinking, complaining, and finding fault. There also are certain habits that we can do to assist our mind to get into a place of meditation, and to begin to make some progress in your practice.

Meditation is the stillness of your mind and a reconnection with your inner spirit. It could be a time of reflection, and a period of question and answers, or simple a time of less thoughts to offer you peace.

First for the novice, the right duration of time is 5-10 minutes. Do not overtax yourself when you first begin. As you go by the duration of time can increase to 10-30 or 40 minutes, or for an hour or more. During meditating, we try to shut out the outside stimulus and force the mind inward. This is one reason that you try to sit as still as possible in the session. You are discarding all physical distraction and sensations. It is important to sit in the most comfortable position that you are able so that you will be able to sit still for a period of time. Prior to beginning your self meditation, you could stretch your neck and move your head up and down and to either side, stretch your back a little and your shoulders. When you get ready in this way it is more likely that you will not be distracted by physical tension.

As you begin to meditate watch and observe your thoughts without any judgments or condemnation. When you have observed your thoughts for a while, begin to call the mind back like a little child. “We are breathing, we are letting go of these thoughts now.” Refocus on the breath coming in through your nose again, if you have become disturbed or distracted. If you are fearful be assured that nothing here can hurt you, this is a discovery of your inner self and a return to your TRUE nature. Once you got accustomed to meditating you will be more comfortable with your true nature and realize that you are created to be naturally peaceful, and joyful, and that is the natural state of your being.
