Most people do not really understand the term ‘Mental telepathy‘. The definition of mental telepathy implies that two people are able to share their thoughts with each other without the intervention of the five senses. Nevertheless mental telepathy can involve a range of varied communication ranging from trying to watch somebody to trying to read someone’s mind. The science of telepathy has many facets to it which can range from utterly simple to highly evolved. The aim of this article is to delve into the various forms of mental telepathy
KINESICS COMMUNICATION:
If you are a parent who has tried to tell your kid or spouse something non-verbally by using your body language, eyes and facial expressions, then you would know what Kinesics or non-verbal communication is. In this form of non verbal communication almost everything can be said without speaking by merely using the eyes and expressions and body language. For this kind of communication you need to know the other person well in order to communicate effectively. Its most effective between parents, children, lovers and intimate friends.
Most people do not regard this form of communication as mental telepathy since here communication is through senses and not just with sounds. Theoretically, this argument holds good. However, we cannot disregard the role of mental telepathy here. The very observation that this kind of non verbal communication is most effective in people who are intimate with each other or know each other well tells us that the minds of these people are more in synch with each other. However, skeptics may argue that this communication is merely effective because people who know each other well understand each other’s body language well or have previously developed a mode of non verbal communication.
EMOTIONAL TELEPATHY:
Through empathy it is possible to directly experience the emotions of others or connect on an emotional level. Putting yourself in another’s shoes’ and understanding how they feel is not something everybody is able to do. Training and practice can increase empathy. Imitating the emotions of others, even to the point of spontaneously laughing or crying is something actors and sociopaths can do everyday.
‘Sympathetic pain’—feeling another person’s pain as if it were your own is something expectant fathers mention, some claiming they can feel the mother’s labor pains at the same time she is experiencing them. If someone close to you is experiencing an overwhelming emotion, you may feel an echo of the same emotion inside you, and mothers often describe this uneasy feeling when their child has been injured. The phenomena of long distance empathy, where a person suddenly feels that someone close to them is in danger, even though they are not near the person at the time is common in other relationships, as well.
Overactive imagination has been blamed by some psychologists and they feel other senses are being used, so it doesn’t count as mental telepathy. How would you explain the phenomena of long-distance empathy, when you are not in proximity to the person? This might explain the feelings experienced if you have sympathetic pain after seeing your child break his arm, however.
CONCRETE CONCEPTS
There is another kind of telepathy which involves sending and receiving concrete symbols and objects between two people. Here advanced Mental telepathy is involved and it is a phenomena outside the five senses. This kind of mental telepathy involves a lot of training, concentration and practice. There is a receiver and a sender involved in this.
It is easier to communicate through thought alone if it is a simple symbol or object than more complex thoughts. A color may be easier to convey than an animal or a general shape easier to communicate than a person’s name.
Experiments in telepathy are often conducted on this level. The Zener cards used in tests of mental telepathy are simple, concrete black-and-white symbols (a circle, square, star, plus sign, and three wavy lines). On one hand, skeptics and critics of the Zener cards have pointed out that with only five cards to choose from, even a random guess has a 20% chance of being right. On the other hand, one could argue that a shared, known, limited set of concrete symbols increases the ability of the sender and receiver to coordinate their thoughts. Furthermore, although anyone can get a 20% success rate with enough guesses, a success rate of 50% or higher (which have happened) can not be explained away by simple statistics.
ABSTRACT CONCEPTS
Mental telepathy at this level goes beyond simple colors and shapes to more abstract concepts like ideas, actions, or values. It is rare and difficult for telepaths to achieve this level, and experiments have shown that they have a lower success rate.
Some animals appear to communicate, and science is not able to explain how. Telepathy shouldn’t be ruled out. At this level, such animals would be using abstract concepts, albeit very basic concepts. Due to the nature of animal brains lacking prefrontal lobes, such ideas would probably not go beyond simplistic impulses like ‘hungry’, ‘thirsty’, ‘horny’, or ‘danger!’
While humans may have once been capable of telepathy, as the species evolved and developed language, it was no longer needed as a form of communication. With the right stimulation humans may be able to call upon this dormant ability that includes abstract communication of ideas. Mental telepathy could be used to communicate, without the need for the use of the five senses.
However, there are some who feel that man may be able to develop ESP and telepathy and such psychic abilities in the near future. As man’s psychic powers grow it may be possible for the entire race to become telepathic in the future.
Does it mean we believe in telepathy and that it exists, when we say an individual is ‘telepathic?’ Not many people think so. The idea is considered science fiction or mysticism and it’s dismissed. Even though everyday we live with cell phones, computers and this through the use of invisible air waves which retrieve the information we need. Hundreds of jets (controlled by computers) take off and land everyday world wide.
The late, great Arthur C. Clark said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. So, in a sense, science and technology ARE magic; they allow us to conjure up things that were ‘impossible’ just a century ago. We draw electrical power directly from the sun. We carry around a small device that can allow us to communicate with anyone else who has a similar device anywhere on the planet instantly; and some people’s small devices allow them to visit entire libraries while they sit on a park bench. But, of course, in a literal sense, this is all just science-not ‘magic’. Right?
To believe an individual may be telepathic has been considered mysticism, which is another word for magic. And it really isn’t much of a stretch to believe in the possibility of a Telepathic person. An individual who developed these mental properties, is misunderstood by many people.
Paraphysicists and parapsychologists scientifically study telepathy and telepaths. The neither try to prove telepathy, nor disprove it. They only want to know if it is an authentic phenomenon and if it can be better understood if it is.
And, some of their experiments have brought tantalizing results to light. Unfortunately, there has never been a set of telepathic experiments that gives measurable, consistent, and repeatable results. This leads many people to conclude that telepathy has been disproven. But, other researchers insist that we haven’t yet designed the right experiments because telepathy is still so new to us.
How can a person be Telepathic? Without the use of other senses, telepaths use their minds and how can they do this? This is not understood completely and is one that doesn’t use the sense of taste, smell, hearing and touch. Nevertheless it does exists. Can this be done artificially? Radio waves are invisible and you can’t see, smell or touch them, but they are real. But then again, the human brain cannot be considered a radio tower.
Is this then possibly ‘thought waves?’ Scientifically proven to exist and generated by the brain and studies of telepathy are based on. Explaining this information in easier to understand terms will be a little difficult, so please stay with us.
Another problem is the weakness of the electrical or magnetic field. It can easily be drowned out by the electrical and magnetic fields of everyday technology—stereos, televisions, computers, even microwaves and refrigerators all send out much larger electrical and magnetic fields.
When you have electromagnetic fields, you have the possibility of communications-as our modern technology clearly proves. But, this brings us to another question: in these ‘thought waves’, is there truly content being carried, or is it all just ‘white noise’? If there is content, can we be trained to control sending and receiving it? Is meditation so effective for so many because it’s a method of tuning in the thought waves better, cutting out the noise and static, just as we do when we tune in a radio station and/or move the radio antenna around?
Researchers of parapsychology have documented brief instances of Telepathic communication during such moments—a mother knowing instantly that their child has been hurt, for example, even though they are miles away. Is there a link between such brain chemistry activity spikes and instances of telepathic communication? Does the fact that the two people are genetically related play a role? Or is it all just a coincidence?
Unfortunately, there is not enough scientific evidence at the moment to prove that telepathy is a fact beyond doubt, as far as mainstream science is concerned. However this is gradually changing as more and more studies are showing that telepathic communication really does exist and with the right training, all humans can learn to become telepathic.
Researchers of parapsychology have documented brief Telepathic communications. One instance is a mothers knowing her child has been hurt, even though they are separated by many miles. This fear and anxiety the parent experiences creates the spiking of neurons and is this brain activity telepathically communicating? Does the relationship between two individuals contribute to telepathy? Or perhaps is this all just coincidence?
While mainstream science remains doubtful about telepathy because of the lack of consistent experimental results, this is a slowly changing attitude. As more research gets conducted, more researchers are convinced that telepathy must be real-and we just need to get the experiments right to understand it and be able to allow everyone to be trained one level or another as a telepath.
‘Mental telepathy‘ can be a broad term that encompasses numerous things. It typically means reading the thoughts between people without using normal senses. The difference is a huge between having an intuitive gut feeling and knowing information that could only be gathered by reading somebody’s mind. Very basic skills can be construed as mental telepathy but so can very complex. Different levels of mental telepathy can be summarized in this article.
NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Whenever two people communicate without speaking, using body language or facial expressions instead, it is considered non-verbal communication or kinesics. Some people are able to communicate simple messages while others are able to communicate entire conversations using kinesics. You may have experienced this when giving looks to a cohort in a secret plan of action. Achieved easiest and most accurately between people who know each other well, kinesics involves knowing what the other person is thinking by non-verbal gestures or kinesics.
This may not count as mental telepathy, as the two people are using their senses to communicate, just not verbally and this is correct. However, mental telepathy plays a role, because their minds are more attuned to each other because of extended exposure to the way the others mind may think and some predictability comes into play, so there is a sort of mental connection. Two people that know each other well enough to understand more subtle body language, or have created nonverbal signals to communicate, might be argued that it is not be classified as mental telepathy.
Empathy is the ability to recognize, perceive, or directly experience the emotions of others. Some people are very poor at this, and others are very good at this, being able to mentally ‘put themselves in another’s shoes’ and understand how they must be feeling. Empathy can be increased with training and practice. Actors, for example, are able to imitate the emotions of others, even to the point of being able to make themselves spontaneously laugh or cry.
Sympathetic pain or truly feeling the pain of the other person is often experienced by many. This can be particularly prevalent in mothers who even develop a fever when their children are sick. There are times when close friends or relatives actually feel the pain whether it’s emotional or physical or even mental of the other person. Then there is something known as long distance empathy which all of us have known and experienced at one time or the other. This happens when some one real close to us has problem or gets hurt or even is in danger and is somewhere else and we feel their pain and emotion.
Psychologists write off such empathetic phenomena as a simple trick of an overactive imagination. At the very least, they do have a point that other senses are being used. Would we be able to feel the sympathetic pain of a broken arm, for example, if we could not actually see the injury? This does not explain, however, the phenomena of long-distance empathy.
Thought transference of symbols, numbers, or names of objects between two minds is beyond the regular five senses in communication. A designated sender and receiver, intense concentration, training, and practice are often involved in this type of Mental telepathy, such as a mind reader or physic with a television audience, who is able to guess the names of loved ones or what card a person is holding in their hand.
The simpler the concept, the easier it is to communicate through thought alone. For example, a color or shape may be easier to convey than an animal.
ABSTRACT COMMUNICATION:
Mental telepathy at this level involves abstract concepts like ideas or actions, which are more complex to communicate than colors and shapes. Telepaths rarely achieve this level, and lower success rates are indicated in experiments.
Telepathy shouldn’t be ruled out when it comes to animals that seem to communicate ideas to each other through non-verbal actions. Because animal brains lack prefrontal lobes, telepathy would probably not go beyond simplistic ideas such as hunger or danger signals, but many have seen two dogs look at each other and go running for an almost pre-decided location.
If enough people can develop these powers, theoretically all humans in the future could use mental telepathy to communicate, according to some scientific beliefs.
Every human being can learn telepathy. This ability translates to sensing and transmitting feelings over a distance, without using any of the five physical senses or using words. This kind of mind to mind communication works instantly and can even cross enormous distances.
Don’t ever believe that you can’t learn telepathy; as a matter of fact, there is a good chance that you have already done it before. You may just not have been aware of it! You’ll find that there are many people who have thought about a friend or relative, often for the first time in years, and the very next day, that person calls them. Does that sound familiar? Are you seeing a few incidents in your past with new eyes? This is all evidence that you are practicing telepathy and in fact that many people do the same every day!
Essentially, a telepathic connection was established that day. Emotions came into play, and your wish to hear about that person or to figure out what they have been up to translated itself into a connection that you “communicated” your wish through.
This telepathic contact encouraged them to get in touch with you. Perhaps you were the first person to think of them, and the other person received your emotions and felt like contacting you. Or maybe they contacted you, felt your return thoughts of them without your being aware of it, and that was the reason they chose to make contact another way. They may have even been planning to get in touch, and you perceived that intent telepathically before the contact ever happened.
Many people believe that they can’t learn telepathy for one reason or another. This might be because they have a religious background that teaches them that this kind of contact is evil or sorcerous. In these cases, they don’t try to learn it, and suppress their existing telepathic experiences. Many people have also been told that telepathy is irrational and superstitious, due to the lack of available scientific evidence.
Another barrier that many people face who are interested in learning telepathy is one that is found in many people who already practice it, as well. There are people who believe that spoken language is somehow inferior and that was only developed after our telepathic abilities had decayed for some reason. This is also patently untrue. There was a time in our history when telepathy and spoken language were as closely linked as music and lyrics!
In that analogy, the lyrics would be spoken words and the music would be telepathy. Each one enhances the other. Words are needed to clarify and more sharply define the telepathic feelings. This was why words were developed in the first place. Unfortunately, it clearly appears to be the case that over a long period of time people became so dependent on language that they came to neglect their development of telepathic communication.
After hearing all that, there is a good chance that your interest is piqued and you are going to want to see what you can do to learn this amazing talent. You’ll find that it is no where near as difficult as you might be afraid of and that all it takes is a little bit of practice.
First, find yourself a partner. Hopefully, he r she is someone you know very well and who is open minded to the possibility of things like telepathic powers. Look for someone who has the same burning desire to learn that you do, and you’ll find that this can make it much easier for you to get started and it can help along the way.
The next thing you need to do is separate from your partner. You shouldn’t be able to see or hear one another, or give each other cues. Both of you need to be as relaxed as possible, since being tense tends to interfere with your performance in this and in other activities. Remove stress and worry from your mind and make sure you’ve got a method to get in touch with your partner. A phone or Internet connection will work well.
Now, one at a time (you’ll need to previously agree on who will go first), visualize the other person as clearly in your mind as you can. Then, visualize some kind of connection between you – a physical connection, something like a golden light that surrounds you both, or a magical thread of pure energy that connects you.
The next thing to do is to send a thought through that thread or from one light into the other. This is like a web transmission or phone call. Keep it simple to start with and go with the clearest thought possible. Make it something the other person can’t guess without contact, though!
When you feel that the telepathic transmission has been completed, the next step is contacting your partner to ask them if they saw anything, and what it was if they did. Compare notes, then trade places and have the other person send.
When you are beginning, if you don’t feel that you were able to transmit after 15 minutes, stop for a while. Your first attempts should be kept brief so that you don’t exhaust yourselves and so you don’t become frustrated and allow negative feelings to settle in.
When you are learning telepathy, remember that you should keep yourself as positive as you can. Don’t give up and you’ll be very close to discovering brand new worlds!
Can there really be any such thing as someone who is ‘telepathic‘? Most people would probably answer ‘only in some fantasy novel.’ But, look at all the things that people do today that once upon a time would have been ‘mere fantasy’: flying through the air; using the Internet to talk instantly to people thousands or millions of miles away; putting entire books on a hand-held device without needing any paper; and on and on.
Is has been said that a sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. The human race has used science and technology to learn things about the natural world we never knew. We’ve done things that were considered impossible flights of fancy jut a hundred years ago. We’ve had men walk on the bottoms of the oceans and on the surface of the moon (and we did it with technology that, by today’s standards, seems primitive). We can gather energy from the sun, the wind, and the water. And anyone can have a small device in their pocket that allows them to talk to anyone anywhere in the world. But this isn’t magic, its science… right?
Telepathic? is the thought of today, at least by most people, as some kind of ‘magic’-and so, something mystical. Yet, history proves that all kinds of things that are science today were ‘magic’ back when few people understood them or they were believed to be impossible. So…why can’t telepathy be another one of these natural phenomena that is simply written off by many as superstitious magic today because, as of yet, it hasn’t been fully comprehended by science?
Parapsychology or paraphysic is the scientific investigations of telepathic individuals. Scientist who investigate and experiment get answers to their questions on telepathy. Even if the answer they do get are not quite what they are looking for.
..Or, is it? One thing that science does know and acknowledge is that there are electromagnetic waves generated by the brain called ‘thought waves’. And researchers who have not dismissed telepathy say that this is the key insight that is needed to understand it.
The human thought process is biochemical. It involves the nervous impulses being bounced from one neuron to another neuron. These transfers of impulses create electrical currents which can be measure even though they are very, very small. This small magnetic field generated by these currents produce, in the brain, thousands of synapses firing.
Is it possible for these bio-electric and bio-magnetic fields to be used by humans to communicate? Are these waves just meaningless static or do they have content equivalent of the brain? Can these brain waves be controlled by mental training? Can the techniques of meditation be used to shape brain waves into communications of significance?
There are, however, problems with the electrical and magnetic fields. Unfortunately these fields can be overpowered by everyday technology. For example the microwave, television, refrigerator. These everyday items produce much larger magnetic fields and electrical fields. Is it possible to reach the brains magnetic and electrical fields during an emotionally heightened state, fear, pain or shock? During these emotionally charged times, in the brain, a spiking of bio-magnetic and bio-electric activity is created by neuron synapses firing.
There is scientifically conducted research which has documented possibilities here. Perhaps that is why people see departed loved ones during near-death experiences: they are emotionally intensified and, as a result, tune in telepathic thoughts-maybe even some old thoughts that somehow still linger around them from loved ones but could never be tuned in before! So, does this prove brainwave boosting capacity? Would genetic ties matter? Or, is this all just reading into coincidences?
There is too little scientific evidence to prove telepathy exists and there is still doubt. This is changing and there are more and more studies being conducted by scientists to show there are telepathic humans. With proper instruction and guidance this gift can be developed among the human population.
