Meditation Methods For The Beginner
Jul 16th, 2010 by Dee Marie

Many people begin meditating to relieve themselves of the stress that comes with daily life. We all want peace and clarity as to how we should live. It is easier to find this peace and clarity through meditation methods and it’s a lot healthier than looking for the same through drugs and alcohol.

For the beginner there are some really simple meditation techniques that can be learned without the need to pay high prices to a professional. Most of these techniques only require basic actions like focusing your breathing or listening to sounds on a CD to achieve your desired state.

Once you have learned these you can then move on to learning more advanced techniques they will help you to further your journey. Still, however, you will find that you always fall back to these basic methods you learned in the beginning.

Focused breathing is said to be one of the easiest methods to master. Position is not as important here as long as you are in a comfortable position. Your goal here will be to control your breathing through your nose while your eyes are closes. By timing these breaths properly you can easily achieve a meditative state where your focus is clear.

Guided meditation is one of the most common methods among beginners because it is so easy. The guided part of the process involves listening to a CD or recording of relaxing music or nature sounds of some kind. Whatever the sound may be it will be a calming one that will help you fall into the relaxed state you need to be in.

A guide will speak over the background noise and instruct you on what to focus on and how to control your breathing during all of it. In the end they will help you to reach the state which you desire to be in so you can relax not only your body but also your mind.

Obviously this is only a couple of the many methods you can use even as a beginner that will help you with the stress in your life. They are basic but make up the foundation you need in order to progress properly and are reverted back to often. Thoroughly learn each method you choose to use if you want the most from the experience. It shouldn’t take long for you to discover that daily stress is much easier to handle when you have the tools to get rid of it at the end of each day. They can also be used at any time you are feeling overwhelmed so that you can focus yourself and return to the task at hand.

Meditation Benefits – Spiritual, Physical, And Mental
Jun 12th, 2010 by Dee Marie

Do you feel weighed down by problems in life? If so then you should take a moment to discover about meditation benefits. You will not have any regrets.

Man has used mediation since prehistory and for a wide range of reasons. Do not think of it solely as a new age practice which has very little relevance in the modern world. It is for good reason more people are developing an interest today.

The primary benefits of mediating regularly can be split up into three distinct groups. These are spiritual, psychical, and mental. The following information should help you to understand just why more and more people are practicing mediation every year.

Spiritual benefits: To start with let’s examine the spiritual benefits of mediation. It is important to understand that there is no religious connotation with meditation. It is practiced by people of every faith, belief and walk of life; this includes Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Buddhists. Through practicing meditation you can develop a greater understanding of your inner self and the power of the soul. It is a simple way to detach yourself from trivial strife that can often plague your days.

Physical benefits: The list of physical benefits is as extensive as the spiritual benefits of meditating. You would discover that your body is far more relaxed as metabolic rate and blood pressure are decreased. Research has also shown that the immune system can be enhanced as can our energy levels and lung capacity. All of these would help us in getting a deeper sleep each night as the body will be less tense. The knock on effects of sleeping fully can be dramatic.

Mental benefits: Apart from the above mentioned spiritual and psychical benefits there are also the positive mental changes that can be had with meditation. You should feel far less anxious and restlessness and therefore be in a much better state of mind to cope with whatever life throws at you. The mind and body will become more harmonious and allow for a greater creativity and less confusion and depression. It is even possible to enhance concentration and memory skills as the mind should be easier to focus. This is more important today as we often have a lot we need to achieve in a short space of time.

There is no denying that modern life can take its toll at a young age. With meditation you will be given a new lease of life.

Various Benefits Of Self Meditation
Jun 10th, 2010 by Dee Marie

Are you searching for a certain health benefit, such as decreased anxiety or lower blood pressure? Though proponents of most self meditation practices claim health benefits, frequently these claims of benefit cite scientific research that was actually conducted on other forms of meditation, and not on the practice being promoted. Yet research has clearly shown that not all meditations give the same results. If you’re selecting a meditation for a specific health benefit, check the research being used and verify that a particular benefit was actually done on that specific meditation technique and not on some other practice. While you are looking into the research, be sure the study was peer-reviewed and published in a reputable scientific or academic journal. If a study showing a specific benefit, such as deep relaxation or reduced anxiety, was replicated by several other research studies on that similar practice, then the science is more compelling.

When it comes to reducing stress and anxiety, scientists have again found that all meditation practices are not equally effective. Practices that employ concentration have been discovered to actually increase anxiety, and the same meta-study found that most meditation techniques are no more effective than a placebo at reducing anxiety.

Do you need meditation to lower your blood pressure? The Transcendental Meditation technique is the only mind/body practice that has been shown both in independent clinical trials and meta-analyses to significantly lower high blood pressure in hypertensive patients. To determine if a particular form of meditation has scientific evidence supporting a specific benefit, you can do a search at PubMed or through Google’s academic search engine, Google Scholar. There are over a thousand peer-reviewed studies on the various forms of meditation, with the Transcendental Meditation technique and mindfulness meditation being the most extensively researched practices, respectively. Look into the fields of self meditation and unlock the beautiful power of your calm mind.

What is TM?
May 25th, 2010 by Dee Marie

Transcendental Meditation is an extremely popular type of meditation and is known world wide. TM originated in India and was created in 1955 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It's common to learn TM meditation by attending a 4 day seminar, but books and home study programs are available as well.

Transcendental Meditation or TM is a type of meditation that uses mantras. Essentially, each person practicing TM is assigned a personal mantra to use during their practice. This mantra is repeated over and over again for a period of 15-20 minutes, two times a day.

Similar to mantra meditation, it’s important to understand the underlying meaning of the mantra you’re chanting, but more importantly you must chant the mantra at the correct tones. This ensures that the sound resonates and the correct frequency and it’s when you’re vibrating at the right frequency that the benefits occur.

As with all types of meditation, transcendental meditation offers many great benefits such as:

- Increased energy

- Greater mental clarity

- Decreased stress levels

- Improved relaxation

And much, much more…..

Most meditation practices stress the importance of focused concentration and this is often unnatural and difficult for people to achieve. TM prides itself for its ease of use and highlights that anyone can effortlessly meditate using this meditation technique. Apparently, when you repeat a mantra over and over again you’ll naturally begin to live in the present. The struggle to “silence” the mind that so many people experience when meditating is not present with Transcendental Meditation and apparently this is why people rave about it so much.

Transcendental Meditation is enjoyed by many, many but it is controversial and this is partly because the recommended seminars are quite expensive. To learn more about Transcendental Meditation, visit http://www.tm.org/ today.
