Preparations For A Mantra Meditation Practice
June 23rd, 2010 by Dee Marie

Before you start your mantra meditation practice there are a few things that need to be considered.  Taking care of these considerations will help to ensure you get the most out of your meditation practice.

If you can manage, it is best to dedicate a little time every day to your mantra meditation practice.  Even if it is only five to ten minutes, little practice daily is much better than a one hour stint here or there.  One of the reasons for this is because you are creating new neural patterns in your brain and a daily practice strengthens this.

In fact it is better to start of with a small amount of time and then build up.  In this sense it is just like body building with weights in the gym!  Only when you feel comfortable with a certain time frame should you add more increments of time to your practice and it is best to start with only five to ten minutes.

By doing this you won’t burn yourself out.  It is also a much more pleasurable experience to start of small and not overload yourself so you are always looking forward to the next session.

The next thing to consider is when you practice.  It is best to practice at the same time everyday. This will help with the reinforcing of when you need to practice.

Before you start you day after you have washed is the best time to do your mantra meditation practice.

First thing in the day is best because your mind is more susceptible to different energy and influences when you first awaken so the mantra is said to have more effect.

Devoting time to yourself sets you up for a successful day.   Giving you that much needed me time.  It also helps you to check in with yourself to know where you are at before you start your day.  This gives you the opportunity to try and change your energy or attitude if needed!  This also gives you the potential to give your day the best possible start and sets your day up to be a success.

All the best for a successful mantra meditation practice.
